EMG/NCV (Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV))

Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) is commonly referred to as a nerve conduction study and is used to measure the function of nerves and muscles. It can be a very useful test to determine the source of pain, neurologic problems, and musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Is and EMG/NCV uncomfortable? Some will feel discomfort when the needle electrode is inserted during and EMG. But since the needle is very thin like an acupuncture needle many do not really feel at all. During an NCV a very mild electrical pulse is stimulated and sometimes can be startling.
