Botox

Botox is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum which is the same toxin that can causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called Botulism. In small doses it can be used safely to treat many health problems as listed below. At Surfside Non-Surgical Orthopedics we use Botox as part of a specific evidence based protocol for the treatment of chronic migraines and for the neurologic condition of dystonia and muscle spasticity such as after a stroke or in post-polio syndrome.

Examples of conditions treated with Botox:

  • Chronic Migraines
  • Cervical Dystonia (severe neck and shoulder muscle contractions)
  • Smoothing of Facial Wrinkles (temporary)
  • Muscle Spasticity (after stroke or post-polio syndrome )
  • Hyperhidrosis (severe underarm sweating)
  • Overactive Bladder
  • Strabismus (lazy eye)
  • Blepharospasm  (eyelid spasms)
  • Botox Migraine Protocol

Botox Migraine Protocol is the first and only therapy for prevention of headaches in adults with Chronic Migraine (>15 headache days in a month lasting 4+ hours). It is performed in the office with a series of injections in specific locations with a very fine needle. Most patient tolerate the procedure very well and find it to be very effective.
